Development of Advanced Image Processing Technology and Its Application to Computer Assisted Diagnosis and Surgery
Description
This paper describes our studies on medical image processing and its medical applications. We have developed systems of computer aided diagnosis (CAD) and computer assisted surgery (CAS) in our laboratory. The important features of CAD and CAS are (1) generation of anatomical maps based on image recognition and understanding technologies, (2) automated detection of abnormal regions, (3) guidance to specific areas, e.g., an abnormal region, (4) generation of additional assistant information that is not visible directly in practice, e.g., anatomical names, measurement values (diameter, volume, and so on.), results of surgical simulation, and organs existing beyond an organ’s wall in an endoscopic view, and (5) visualization of such information. We briefly introduce medical image processing technologies and CAD/CAS systems that we have developed.
