説明

Abstract Simultaneous regeneration of zeolites and removal of ammonia using an electrochemical method in the presence of chloride ions was studied by employing a Ti/IrO2–Pt anode and an Fe cathode in an undivided cell. Zeolites could be completely regenerated by this method and after regeneration, no NH 4 + or nitrite was detected in the regeneration solution. More than 97% of the NH 4 + adsorbed by the zeolites was converted to nitrogen and less than 3% was converted to nitrate. The regeneration solution was shown to be effective even after 5 cycles of use, saving both water resources and chemical reagents. More nitrate was produced when the concentration of NaCl was increased or the current density was increased within the range of 20–80 mA/cm2. The electrochemical method may be an attractive alternative for the regeneration of zeolites, as it can completely regenerate zeolites and simultaneously remove ammonia.
