説明

ABSTRACT We developed a diode-side-pumped Tm:GdVO 4 laser with a conductively cooled pump head as a pump source of a Ho laser. The laser produced an output energy of 32 mJ at a pulse repetition frequency of 5 Hz. In addition, continuous-wave operation was demonstrated in a Tm,Ho:GdVO 4 microchip laser. An output power of 0.43 W and a slope efficiency of 33% were achieved near room temperature. Keywords: diode-pumped laser, solid-state laser, eye-safe laser, vanadate laser 1. INTRODUCTION Tm,Ho-doped solid-state lasers operating at 2 P m are useful for coherent lidar appli cations because of eye-safety, high-energy storage capability, and a narrow linewidth in Fourier-transform-limited operation. In most cases, garnet and fluoride materials codoped with Tm and Ho ions have been used as a laser crystal for 2 P m lasers. 1 Although we have demonstrated a conductively cooled, Q-switched laser with Tm :Ho codoped crystals of LuLF, the laser efficiency in Q-switched mode operations was lower than that in normal mode operations due to inefficient energy transfer from Tm to Ho at room temperature.
