Development of 22 kv very low-frequency, high-voltage generator and the characteristics of partial discharge in XLPE cables
Description
For diagnosis of power cables, direct current voltage has presently been used in tests. Direct current voltage is, however, not always effective, especially in measuring the partial discharge characteristics of XLPE cables. The weak point of testing when used with power frequency voltage is that it requires a very weighty transformer. We chose a very low frequency voltage as a power source in place of the direct current, and made a 22kV high-voltage generator with very low frequency (0.1Hz). We carried out tests on the characteristics of the partial discharge in XLPE cables and confirmed that the very low frequency method can induce partial discharge with characteristics approximately identical to that of the power frequency source.
