Description
Nanointerface control and design by irradiation of energy beams such as electrons and ions have been proposed by Tanaka's group as one of the bottom-up technology for nanodevice elements. Energy beams occasionally provide metastable nanointerfaces or nanophases in the body. This paper deals with metastable nanointerface and nanophases controlled by electron beam irradiation which are started from metal nanoparticles. (1) Interface of the bonded Cu nanoparticles formed by a higher intensity of electron irradiation was unstable S7 and Σ13a CSL boundaries tilted around [111] axis whereas that of Pt and Al nanoparticles by medium conditions promotes stable Σ3. (2) Cu nanofilm formed from Cu nanoparticles by electron irradiation had no explicit interfaces but the film contained metastable Cu 3 N nanocrystals formed by the reaction with residual nitrogen atoms.
