<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>When the acid chlorides (I) are reacted with hydroquinone (II) at high dilution, only the cyclic dimers (III) are formed, whereas the reaction between (I) and pyrocatechol (IV) yields the monomers (V) and the dimers (VI).</jats:p>
