Abstract Resonance Raman spectra of p -H 2 NC 6 D 4 NNC 6 D 5 , p -D 2 NC 6 D 4 NNC 6 D 5 and p -(CH 3 ) 2 NC 6 H 4 NNC 6 D 5 in neutral and acidic solutions have been recorded and isotope effects of vibrational frequencies of the azo and the hydrazone forms have been investigated. An appreciable mixing of group frequencies has been found to arise from the long range interaction between the azo group and the p -disubstituted benzene ring.
