Traumatic asphyxia was the typical death pattern during the Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake. Nevertheless, its mechanism has not been elucidated absolutely. In this paper, we conduct the thoracic compression analysis by using the original finite element thorax model. In this simulation, static loadings increased in the range of 0kg〜180kg and the variation of thorax cage diameter is evaluated. In the results of this simulation, the thorax deformation under static loadings shows hard-spring-type nonlinear properties. By a survey on the former study about a crowd collapse, useful data of traumatic asphyxia is obtained. And the experimental study which focused on the grades of thoracic compression and mortality contains very precious data about the relations between the grades of thoracic compression and the time interval before death following compression of chest.
