Research Abstract

本研究は、建国期から19世紀に至る文学作品と政治・歴史文献を広く網羅しながら、「アメリカ的理想の破壊と再創造」という主題が、Melvilleのみならず19世紀に広く共有されていたことを示す意味で、19世紀アメリカ研究への貢献が見込める。また、環太平洋という最新の文学理論をさらに進展させつつ、本研究は、日本を含めたアジアがアメリカの文学、ひいては社会の成り立ちと不可分であったことを示す。そうすることで、アメリカを中心にグローバル化する現代世界の課題を浮かび上がらせることができる。
