Description

This paper presents an ontological discussion about the concepts of self-help and autonomy. In pedagogy, these ideas are often discussed from the perspective of human relations. On the other hand, Heidegger's ontological concept of "self-help" (Selbständigkeit) is related to self-formation, and discusses the change each time and the constant coming of originality. This occurs in the relationship between self and things and others. The self understands things and others, and this relationship is called being-in-the-world. In addition, this involves understanding the possibility of death. In this relationship with possibility, self-formation occurs each time. From this ontological perspective, pedagogical self-help and autonomy in human relationships is one part of "self-help" (Selbständigkeit), as human relationships are one part of being-in-the-world and being-in-the-world as a total being is related not only to other things and other people but also to the possibility of death.
