Abstract

Even in Japan, amid a series of labor and social problems such as corporate fraud, scandals, disparities and discrimination, and various types of harassment due to the coronavirus pandemic, discussions on corporate governance reform to dispel these situations are showing a big wave. In particular, under neoliberalism, which prioritizes market omnipotence and capital, there is active debate that transcends "unequal society." In fact, the thoughts of Kohei Saito, who made headlines in "Capital in the Anthropocene," and Thomas Piketty, a French socioeconomist, are in the spotlight. In light of this sociopolitical situation, this paper discusses corporate governance reform through the participation of workers in management, the ideal state of a new "economic democracy" in Japan, and a practical vision.
