説明

type:text

Folklorist Yanagita Kunio, considered the founder of Japanese folklore, left many documents in pedagogy and folklore suggesting methods for Japanese education in the early modern period. He accepted and advocated the value of early modern education, especially folk narratives, and criticized the tendency to deny the existence of early modern education because of the assumption that education began in the modern age. Shoji Kazuaki, a pioneering researcher on Yanagita Kunio in Japanese pedagogy, has listed Yanagita's words regarding early modern education. We need to structure those words to identify the characteristics of early modern education. This paper focuses on the word "influence" and analyzes its position in Shoji's lists. The study finds that, unlike the other words, "influence" reveals a weakness of early modern education because Yanagita was reluctant to use this word to describe it. However, he admitted this weakness and sought an advantage of early modern education not present in modern education.
