Abstract

The process of wheelchair transfer assistance from a bed to a wheelchair was examined, and the division of the process into phases was examined by using a three-dimensional biomechanical analysis device and floor reaction force plate. Models that portrayed right hemiplegic patients were used in the simulation of the performance of wheelchair transfer assistance. The movements were tracked at the center point between the right and left posterior superior iliac spines, which is approximately the center of gravity of a human body. The floor reaction force, speed, and acceleration were measured. First, the extreme values in the graph were calculated from position data, speed data, and acceleration data. The movements were divided into the following phases: (1) beginning, (2) shifting, (3) standing up, (4) turning, (5) sitting down, and (6) adjusting seating position. After verifying the tracks of the movement, the verification of the phases of the wheelchair transfer assistance performance was obtained from the floor reaction force combined with the movement tracks, speed, and acceleration. After the tracks of the movement were graphed in three dimensions, the turning points of the tracks were found to be almost synchronous with changes in the floor reaction force, speed and acceleration, resulting in the validity for dividing the wheelchair transfer assistance performance into six phases.
