Description
<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Vetivazulene was heated with sulfur to give a new sulfur-containing azulene, 3,5,9-trimethylazuleno[1,2-b]thiophene. On Vilsmeier formylation, the compound normally resulted in the formation of 4-formyl derivative, while the acetylation according to the Vilsmeier procedure proceeded abnormally to produce 4-dimethylamino-3,5,9-trimethylazuleno[1,2-b]thiophene.</jats:p>
