  • カブトムシによる樹液獲得のためのトネリコ樹皮の傷つけ

Abstract

従来，カブトムシ（Trypoxylus dichotomus septentrionalis）が自ら樹皮を傷つけて樹液を得るという報告はなかったが，近年シマトネリコ（Fraxinus griffithii）の樹皮を傷つけて樹液をなめる例が報告された。しかし，シマトネリコは庭木や公園樹として導入された樹木で，本来の分布域は亜熱帯から熱帯であり，カブトムシの分布域とは重なっていない。そのため，この行動がカブトムシ本来のものであるのか不確実であった。本研究では，岩手県滝沢市において，在来種であるトネリコ（Fraxinus japonica）に，野生のカブトムシが傷をつけて樹液をなめる行動を観察した。これにより，この行動がカブトムシの分布域に存在する在来の樹種に対しても行われる，カブトムシ本来の行動であることが明らかになった。
