Description

An open-label multi-center study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Topiramate (TPM) from December 2007 to January 2009. The study subjects consisted of 302 patients with various epilepsy and seizure types. Fourteen patients (4.6%) became seizure free. The effectiveness was most prominent in Dravet syndrome. More than 50% seizure reduction was obtained in 25.9% of patients with complex partial seizure, 28.6% with generalized tonic-clonic seizure, 18.4% with tonic seizure, and 25% with myoclonic seizure. While sleepiness and loss of appetite were the most common side effect, psychiatric and cognitive impairment were also observed in 8.6% and 6.6%, respectively.<br>
