• Changes in esterase zymograms of the silkworm, Bombyx mori L., during development

抄録

By means of thin layer electrophoresis in agar gel, esterase of homogenates of various organs from the silkworm was studied.
Fifteen different esterase bands were detected with β-naphthyl acetate as the substrate and naphthanil diazoblue B as coupler. Thirteen bands migrated toward the anode, while two bands migrated toward the cathodal side.
There is a stage and tissue specificity in the patterns observed as in other organisms. Gradual changes in enzyme activity occurred during development, and there were great changes from the late period of the fifth instar to the pupal stage. In the alimentary canal and gonads, the stage specificity is based on the relative intensity or upon the presence or absence of a particular band. On the other hand, G, H and I bands in zymograms of the fat body and haemolymph showed yellowish brown color in the early period of development. Then, after the fifth instar these bands changed into red color as others. From above results it seems that esterase in G, H and I bands is synthesized during development.
