Abstract

In investigations of the citizens' consideration concerning the city library, analyses using the univariate or the cross-classified table are generally done. However, the city library would like to learn in detail how persons who have certain characteristics use the city library and what kinds of demand they have. In this paper, for "Investigation concerning the ideal way of the Chofu city library as the base of making regional informationalized society" of "Plan of the social education activation of 21^<st> century" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the questionnaire is designed to understand the difference in the city library usage, the demand and the satisfaction of persons between with and without certain characteristics. The Structural Equation Modeling is used. The entire citizens' consideration is investigated especially how spare time and money, preference for the genre of book, family structure influence the city library usage. In addition, the analyses of models stratified into the city library users and non-users and the analyses of models stratified into the central library users and the branch users are done, because this investigation targets the entire citizens including not only the library users but non-users. Then, features of non-users and branch users are examined. Further, the latent types of library users that could not be understood using known strata are analyzed using the latent class.
