Abstract

A 75-year-old female with liver cirrhosis, type C, was referred to our hospital due to acute hepatic failure, which developed during chemotherapy of pancreatic tail cancer after the operation. Abdominal CT scan showed the thrombosis in the left branch of portal vein extending to the right branch and main trunk, and Child-Pugh score was 10 points, compatible with acute hepatic failure. Two weeks after we started administration of antithrombin-III and danaparoid sodium, the portal vein thrombosis disappeared, resulting in improvement of Child-Pugh score to 6 points at 1 month, with no adverse effects. The present case suggests that the administration of antithrombin-III and danaparoid sodium appeared to be safe and effective for the treatment of portal vein thrombosis associated with liver cirrhosis.<br>
