Description
We report on 21 cases of pilonidal sinus between 1988 and 2015.
Results: Every patient visited our office with chief complaints of sacral tumor, purulent discharge, and anal pain. The median age was 25 years old. 16 patients were male and 5 were female. We performed excision and primary closure for 17 patients up to 2010, and 4 patients suffered recurrence. We performed operation using the marsupialization method for the recurrent cases and 4 patients after 2010. No postoperative recurrences have been found.
Conclusions: There are various operative methods for pilonidal sinus. Wound disruption and recurrence occurred at high rates for primary closure. The marsupialization method is useful for cases of recurrence and large pilonidal sinus. We changed our treatment policy to the following: first, we try to close the wound by a single suture. If the tension is strong, we perform marsupialization. The results showed that there was no wound disruption or recurrence.
