Description

Japanese fiber industry is in the critical situation because of the rapid increase of import. The silk industry is also in the similar retreat. The main reason can be pointed out that (1) the sharp increase of the second processed silk products, (2) demand reduction of Japanese Kimono because of the change of the lifestyle. Especially by the reason of the latter, it falls into a severe situation in the production area such as Nishijin, Kiryu and Hakata, which are called the Japanese three major Obi material production areas. Thus, based on the silk vision new grope was carried out aiming at the future in these production areas. Therefore, I paid my attention to Hakata in this report aiming at clarifying the development of the productive structure of the production area concerned and progressing strategy in the future. It can be known clearly that in this production area the production scale is still in a gradual downward tendency. However, the number of employees and the amount of production showed a slight increase tendency in recent years. The production system also changed from the obi material production to a system of producing small amount of multi articles including obi and other accessories. The strategy for the future can be pointed out that (1) effort to make more new original articles and (2) reinforcement of sharing information between Hakata and other production area, should be done all the time.
