Abstract

This paper aims to clarify why Alfred Chandler had a big academic impact on not only business history but also management studies in the late 20th century. It is concluded that Chandler’s business history attempted to discover a general structure by comparison of various case studies. Chandler paid attention to the large-scale corporations that managed the flow of a large amount and a variety of things. However, it is critical to look out for new organizational forms managing the flow with more flexibility.
