Description

Tanizaki Junichiro's Yume no Ukihashi has been regarded as a story of incest between mother and son, or of swapping between father and son, or of pederasty. However, I appreciate it as a story of a new discovery of writing by an author of the private papers. This attitude of reading gives new light to the breast-feeding affair of the mother and son which is sweet and all the more remorseful, and makes it possible to illustrate the objective nature found in the step-mother, which was almost incomprehensible. The author describes the "realities" which he experienced, arranging them in various ways, in order to make the objectiveness clear, where the secret as "emptiness" is found.
