Description

Doke no Hana, Dazai Osamu's early masterpiece, is a story of a man called Oba Yozo. Yozo tries to commit a double suiside but survives in spite of his girl friend's death. The characteristic found in the structure of this novel is that the narrator of the story freely explains and annotates the content and structure of the story he is telling. This is a typical text that is identified with "meta-fiction". It contains the actual novel text and a statement about how the novel was created. Discussion is made on this novel, refferring to the general theory of "metafiction."
