Description

When we measure the velocity close to a wall using a hot wire anemometer, the measuring errors of the velocity may be caused due to the heat loss from the ware to the wall. In a laminar boundary layer on a flat plate, these errors were experimentally shown depending on the wire Reynolds number and the distance of the wire to the wall. Moreover, the rate of heat transfer of the hot wire in the uniform shear flow was numerically solved by using a finite difference method and was compared with the experimental results. As a result, it was found that the rate of heat loss was dependent on the dimensionless velocity gradient.
