説明

The conditions of the azygos, hemiazygos and accessory hemiazygos veins were examined on twenty adult cadavers (13 males, 7 females), and the ascending lumbar vein was observed. (The ascending lumbar vein was defined as the longitudinal vessel behind the psoas major muscle which commences below in the iliolumbar vein of the common iliac vein and terminates above by uniting with the subcostal vein.) The following results were obtained : 1. The normal condition with the hemiazygos and accessory hemiazygos veins was found in 60 per cent of all cases. 2. The incomplete condition was found in 15 per cent, i.e., in 10 per cent with the only hemiazygos vein and in 5 per cent with the only accessory hemiazygos vein. 3. In 25 per cent of all cases, the anomalous condition was lacking both hemiazygos and accessory hemiazygos veins. 4. The azygos vein taking origin as the continuation of the ascending lumbar vein was found in 40 per cent of all cases and the hemiazygos was found in 21 per cent.
