Abstract

Preparation conditions of Dry Matter (DM); dry water (DW), dry polymer solution (D-PS) and dry gel (DG) were investigated by changing several factors such as silica particle composition, mixing time and temperature, polymer concentration (D-PS), crosslinking degree (DG), and so on. We found that the surface tension of the inner (liquid) phase and the mechanical energy input (mixing time) are most essential while the subtle balance between the viscosity and the surface tension of the inner phase also exerts some nonmonotonic effects on the DM preparation. Thus, even for polymers that have a too low surface tension for successful D-PS, DG may be available. This will broaden the preparation possibilities of DM.
