Abstract

Experiments were carried out to study effects of delayed supplementation of the polished rice diets with lysine and threonine on the growth, the repletion and the metabolism of rats. When the supplementation with lysine and threonine was delayed for 4 hours after meal, the weight gain of both the growing and the repleting groups was decreased, and this effect was less in the latter than in the former. On a group of the delayed supplementation with excess lysine and excess threonine, recovering body weight from the depletion was similar to that of non-delayed supplement group. In the experients of both the growing and the repleting rats, there was lower weight gain in the groups of delayed supplement with threonine than with lysine, and then there was high excretion of threonine in urine of rats when lysine supplementation was delayed.
