Description

This paper explains the design of an experimental equipment which is developed to control and measure the simple manual task of grasping a steel ball (GP : grasp point), transporting it, positioning and inserting it into a hole (RP : release point), and discusses results of preliminary experiments on height of work surface, position of RP and accuracy of RP. From the results of experiments it is found that performance is good when the height of work surface exists between the height of elbow and a height 10cm lower than the height of shoulder points; cycle time is not affected when RP moves towards front-to-far direction, but cycle time increases when RP moves towards front-to-out direction; RP accuracy indicated by the clearance between a hole and a ball has an exponential effect on the rate of error. Because a function of a body-muscle system and a visual system affects a work performance of the task, it is important for motion study to analyse characteristics of the body-muscle and visual system as a dominant of work performance.
