Abstract

<p>During the late 1990s and the 2000s there can be often found in animations and “light novels” a strong desire to seek after alternative realties that emerges in the forms of parallel universes, time loops, and metamorphoses. 1Q84 (2009) is one of the literary works written under the influence of such a subcultural desire. But now, especially since the Tohoku Earthquake in 2011, the trend has completely changed. This is why the parallel universes in Haruki Murakami's novel look somewhat out of date. But this paradigm shift in an outlook on fiction and reality has already started before the 2010s. The aim of this paper is to epistemologically analyze what is taking place now in novels, animations, pop music, and other subcultural fields.</p>
