This study examines the usefulness of shadowing as a means of prosody teaching. Shadowing is assumed to be effective in language learning, because it demands learners the use of cognitive skills such as, listening, speaking, and retention. It is also assumed that shadowing is useful to learn prosodic features of the language, but there is very little literature examing the effect of shadowing on prosody acquisition by shadowing. After 25 English classes, the learners became more fluent with fewer pauses in a reading aloud task. One of the factors being that they learned to speak smoothly, and some of the data give an initial indication that they have a recognition of English language rhythm and intonation. This study shows that prosody teaching by means of shadowing, previously considered to be difficult to deal with, improves learners' prosody in the target language, and sheds some light on the effectiveness of shadowing on prosody acquisition.
