Description
This study sought to clarify the “teachers' sense of burden” when implementing reasonable accommodation. Based on the teachers’ questionnaire results, the burdens on the teachers during face-to-face classes and online classes were compared using the KJ method, and the positive and negative effects of the reasonable accommodation for online classes were analyzed. The content burden for both the face-to-face and online classes were found to be generally the same in most categories; however, the category “concern about burden on other students” was not found in the online classes. While the “workload” and “mental burden” categories were relevant to both class types, the subcategories were found to be qualitatively different. For the “workload” category, there was a difference between the “barrier-free of information” and the “modification of class materials to accommodate online use,” and for the “mental burden,” “not being able to see the students” when online was found to be a concern. To alleviate the burden on instructors, it is essential to promote “proactive improvement measures” and consider developing of a “support system for supporters” in the future.
