Abstract

Focusing on the concept of family confidence, this study aimed to clarify nursing interventions that foster family confidence in families with low-birth-weight infants. Interviews were conducted with 10 nurses, midwives, and public health nurses with over five years of clinical experience and who are involved in nursing for families with low-birth-weight infants. Thereafter, a qualitative and inductive analysis was performed. Six themes emerged, including: [Empower mainly mothers], [Support parents to be the core of childcare for low-birth-weight infants], [Grasp and match the timing of support for the family without missing it], and [Supporting the power of family during the time after the birth of a low-birth-weight infant]. The three core categories were: “mothers and low birth weight infants”, “parents”, and “the whole family system”. The results indicated the importance of nursing in nurturing family confidence from the perspective of the hierarchy of various systems in families with low-birth-weight infants.
