A study on “understanding motor skills and motor sensation” in mat activities for 3rd grade elementary school students : focusing on using "rubric expressed in onomatopoeia"

Description
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether students understand motor skills and motor sensation in mat activities for 3rd grad elementary school students. The experimental classes of mat activities were conducted over six, one-hour PE sessions in one school (142 students in total). Teacher used rubric for assessment tool in these classes. The rubric was expressed in onomatopoeia. Analysis objects were learning cards by students. This study resulted in three main findings. 1) About 74% of the students understood motor skills and motor sensation in total of the fifth class and sixth class. 2) About 65% of the students wrote prediction about motor sensation in learning cards in the fifth class. 3) About 80% of the students wrote about motor sensation from the beginning of learning. The percentage of students who wrote a lot about them as learning progressed increased from 30% to 50%. In conclusion it clarified that students understand motor skills and motor sensation using "rubric expressed in onomatopoeia" in mat activities.
