Description

A forty-nine-year-old female was referred to our hospital due to a left chest wall swelling mass that she had initially noted two years ago, along with pain in the lesion. Chest CT revealed an anterior mediastinal calcified mass measuring 13.5 cm in its longest axis. Which compressed the heart and partly extended into the subcutaneous tissue without invasion into neighboring organs. MRI showed a heterogeneous tumor with high signal on T2-weighted images. Ultrasound-guided needle biopsy confirmed a cartilage tumor. Subsequently, surgical resection was performed, involving removal of the tumor along with the fifth to seventh ribs, their cartilage, and surrounding soft tissue, followed by chest wall reconstruction. The pathological diagnosis confirmed chondrosarcoma. It is noteworthy that tumor formation within the anterior mediastinum and thoracic cavity was more prominent than its extension into subcutaneous areas, requiring differentiation from mediastinal tumor invasion into the chest wall.
