Description

The purpose of this study was to make clear the effects of the different ambient humidity on clothing surface temperature(Tcs) and microclimate temperature(Tmc) while wearing two types of undershirts with different moisture absorption (Polyester (P), Cupro/Polyester (C)). Seven subjects wearing both undershirts participated in the study at an ambient temperature from 26° to 20° and then 35℃ over 240 minutes. The integrated values and increasing rate of both Tcs and Tmc was significantly higher in C than in P after the onset of sweating in 50% relative humidity (RH), but there was no significant difference between P and C in 70% RH. Furthermore, the integrated values were not high in C both 50% and 70% RH at the time corresponding to after the onset of sweating in subject experiment, when Tcs of undershirts only in both P and C were measured under the same environmental condition for subject's experiment. These results clearly showed that the effects of heat of sorption induced by evaporative sweating after the onset of sweating were observed in 50% RH while not observed in 70% RH wearing the undershirts with higher moisture absoxption, and the effect of heat of sorption in the undershirts was affected by the ambient humidity.
