説明

A 10-year-old boy was referred to our hospital because his visual acuity of amblyopic eye was not improved, and also a visual acuity of non-amblyopic eye became deteriorated after a long-term occlusion therapy for his hyperopic anisometropic amblyopia. We found no organic ocular disease, but found a spiral field after our examination, leading us to a diagnosis of psychogenic visual disturbance. His visual acuity was improved to 1.2 not only in his non-amblyopic eye but also in his amblyopic eye after stopping the occlusion therapy.<br>It is well known that the occlusion therapy is very stressful for amblyopic children. If a psychogenic visual disturbance occur during the therapy like this case, we may make a wrong diagnosis for the effect of the treatment of amblyopia. To prevent psychogenic visual disturbance, we must take care of mental management for such children and not continue an unnecessary long-term occlusion therapy.
