Description
Antifungal activities of 5-fluorocytosine (5FC), 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and N1-(2-tetrahydrofuryl)-5-fluorouracil (FT) to some fungus species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida albicans and Phialophora pedrosoi, were compared using the densitometry or agar block method. 5FU showed weaker antifungal activity than 5FC and FT was the weakest. The incorporation of 5FU into fungal cells and the inability of fungus to unmask from 5FU to FT as well as other factors were considered to be the cause of these controversial findings.
