In order to establish the method of total analysis of air pollutants, application of gas chromatographic technique was studied. By use of a condensation tube packed with the grained firebricks and cooled by liquid oxygen, C₂ to C₆ hydrocarbons were quantitatively recovered. It was showed that the condensation in this case was based on the low temperature adsorption.<BR>Non-condensable components, such as carbon monoxide and methane, were oxidized to CO₂, trapped and determined by gas chromatography. Sulfur dioxide also could be determined together with hydrocarbons by gas chromatographic separation and removal of CO₂.<BR>The method was applied to several common samples, such as engine exhaust gas, coal stack gas, outdoor air, etc., and their typical gas chromatograms were illustrated.
