Description

Tractors must be prevented from overturning on steep slopes. This paper examines a safety device which measures the rolling angle of a tractor with headstanding double pendulum. First a kinetic equation for the device was derived. We confirmed that when a certain relationship between parameters of the device existed, the pendulum kept pointing in the direction of the gravitation except when the resonant frequency of the pendulum agreed with the frequency of the rolling angle. A vibrator representing a tractor was made and the performance of the pendulum induced by the vibrator was measured. The results were not in agreement with the solution of the kinetic equation, so the kinetic equation was modified using the resonant frequency. The modified equation agreed approximately with the measured values. This showed that the device could indicate the correct rolling angle if the resonant frequency was excluded.
