Objective: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of death worldwide. The aim of this article was to review the global status, trends, and measures of NCDs, and the current topics on NCDs during the 22nd IUHPE world conference.<br>Contents: Mortality of main NCDs, comprising mainly cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes, increased from 2008 to 2012. To prevent and control NCDs, WHO initiated the Global NCDs Action Plan 2013-2020, and strengthened it through the Globe Coordination Mechanism. In this world conference, the social determinants of health (SDH) were considered as an important measure for NCDs prevention and control. In particular, researches highlighted the importance of school-aged children's obesity, food marketing, and health equity, which are all significant references to Japan.<br>Conclusions: NCDs are very complicated because SDH affects. However, SDH should be addressed to prevent and control NCDs by taking the following approach; strengthening health literacy, boosting multisectoral cooperation, and advocating for improving health system and policy.
