Abstract
Protease-producing yeasts were screened from 1670 strains of yeasts isolated from wood saps and soils. Thirty-two strains were selected as producing a large amount of protease in the broth. These strains mainly produced acid- and slightly neutral-protease, but there was a trace of protease activity in alkaline range. Yeast strain KSY-188-5 had the highest productivity of extracellular protease activity in the acidic side, and was identified as Candida pulcherrima.
