Description

The concrete sewer facilities first constructed in Japan are beginning to exceed useful life they have been designed for. Further, there are now instances of facilities that require early repair and reinforcement owing to degradation by sulfuric acid from microorganisms. Maintenance of such structures taking into consideration their life cycle is required, and to this end, concrete with excellent resistance to sulfuric acid that can be used for many different applications, from new construction to repair and reinforcement, to renewal, would be effective. We have developed self-compacting concrete with 10 times the sulfuric acid resistance of ordinary concrete, and have verified its performance for new construction/replacement of facilities, as well as in the large-scale repair of existing facilities as cast-in-place concrete with form-and-pump or form-and-pour techniques, or as for the prefabricated panels. We now would like to see the use of this new type of concrete spread so that it can contribute to the reduction of maintenance work and life cycle cost beyond the standard service life or 50 years.
