Abstract

Nine cases ofVibrio Vulnificusinfectious disease (resulting in four male deaths) were recorded from June to August in 2001 in Kumamoto Prefecture. Six cases (resulting in three deaths) were within the jurisdiction of the Public Health Center of Kumamoto Prefecture. Victims of the illness had all been suffering from liver disease. In public health center administration, there are few precedents for synthetic practice and research with respect to action in response toVibrio Vulnificusinfectious disease. The Public Health Center of Kumamoto Prefecture assessed and identified appropriate action forVibrio Vulnificusinfectious disease, as practiced in the jurisdiction of Yatsushiro Public Health Center, and found useful approaches for responding to the disease in the future. These include: 1) Investigating and identifying symptoms; 2) Synthetic investigation; 3) Investigating and applying information communications; 4) Measures for participatory action; 5) Injury analysis for products deemed to be local foods; 6) Sanitary control from sea to table.
