In order to confirm the clinical usefulness of coix seed extract powder on molluscum contagiosum, well-controlled double blind trials by multi-institutes compared with placebo were studied. The trial duration was 12 weeks, and the doses by oral administration were two groups, one was 6 g/day for under 30kg, and another was 12g/day for 30 kg and over.<BR>The effectiveness coix seed extract powder group was remarkable useful and useful in 56/91 (61.5%), and the effectiveness of placebo group was remarkable useful and useful in 56/101 (55.4%). A significant difference was not seen in effectiveness between both groups. However, not effective cases in placebo group were about two times in coix seed extract powder group.In usefulness and being-rate of the papules of molluscum contagiosum after four weeks, coix seed extract powder group was superior to placebo group.<BR>A significant difference in effectiveness was observed in coix seed extract powder group ofmale patients. A distinct effectiveness was observed in coix seed extract powder group with atopic dermatits.<BR>Side effects were observed in two cases of coix seed extract powder group and in one case of placebo group, these were not serious.<BR>As the results, it was concluded that coix seed extract powder was safe and useful on moliuscum contagiosum.
