Description
Traumatic pancreatic pseudocyst associated with pancreatic ductual injury usually requires open surgery. A case of a patient with traumatic pancreatic pseudocyst, who was successfully treated with external drainage, is reported. A 12-year-old girl was referred to our hospital for a blunt abdominal injury due to a bicycle accident. On the 3rd day, she was treated with laparoscopic external drainage by laparoscopy because of abdominal pain with an increased serum level of amylase. After post-drainage day 5, upper gastrointestinal study and abdominal computed tomography showed a giant well-defined cyst in the pancreatic tail adjacent to the posterior wall of the stomach. We performed transcutaneous external drainage of the pancreatic pseudocyst with a PTCD tube under echography. Though a fistulogram showed fistulization between the main pancreatic duct and the pseudocyst, and disruption of the pancreatic duct, she was relieved without internal drainage or open surgery. In children, external drainage of the pseudocyst is thought to be a useful and appropriate intervention therapy before internal drainage or surgical intervention.
