Description

An 87-year-old man with inguinal swelling on the left side was observed for 1 year at a nearby medical clinic and was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. Upon experiencing epigastric pain, the patient was referred to our hospital for detailed examination.<BR>Three tumors, 40, 22, and 5 cm in size, were observed, and liposarcoma was suggested by imaging studies. We performed a resection to remove the tumors from the small intestinal mesentery, retroperitoneum, and mesorectum. The retroperitoneal tumor, which passed through the inguinal ring, was drawn out, and the hernia orifice was closed using Parietex mesh. The total weight of the tumors was 5701 g. Pathological findings demonstrated that one tumor was dedifferentiated and two were well-differentiated liposarcoma. There were no signs of recurrence 4 months post-surgery. We hereby report a very rare case of multicentric primary liposarcoma with one tumor passing through the internal inguinal ring with inguinal swelling.
