Description
Because of the low recurrence rate, abdominal hernia repair with a mesh prosthesis is valid, but there are specific complications. In this investigation, we show the ability of a technique using a mesh prosthesis coated with biological tissue (coating mesh method). [Material and method] We researched 28 patients who underwent abdominal hernia repair with composix mesh (CM) during January 2007 - March 2010. We compared three patients with the traditional procedure (original CM repair method) with 25 patients with an alternative procedure where mesh was coated with biological tissue (alternative CM repair method) ; we compared patient profiles, progress in the peri-operative term, complications, and recurrence rate. [Results] There was no significant difference between the two groups in the average of hernia orifice, operation time, bleeding volume, or length of hospitalization. As for the post operative complication rate, the original CM repair was 100% and the alternative CM repair was 16%, in particular, seroma was decreased. [Conclution] The post operative complication incidence was improved by the procedure using a mesh coated with biological tissue (alternative CM repair method).
