Abstract

Pharyngoesophageal diverticula are classified based on their anatomic location. Zenker's diverticulum, the most common form, originates posteriorly below the inferior constrictor and above the cricopharyngeus muscle. Killian-Jamieson diverticulum is less common than the classic Zenker's diverticulum, and it originates inferior to the cricopharyngeus muscle but resides anterolateral to the esophagus. We recently treated two patients with Killian-Jamieson diverticulum. Preoperative esophageal fluoroscopy and CT/MRI showed a pharyngoesophageal diverticulum in both cases. Both patients underwent open diverticulectomy surgery in our hospital. In both cases, the diverticulum formed from Lamier's triangle. Postoperative course was uneventful and postoperative esophageal fluoroscopy revealed good results. Therefore, the patients were discharged within two weeks after operation.
