Description
Fourteen cases of pemphigus and pemphigoid that visited our department from 1981 to 1994 were clinically studied.
1) There were 9 cases of pemphigus, and all of them were pemphigus vulgaris (PV). There were 5 cases of pemphigoid, and all of them were mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP). The sex ratio was higher for females in both diseases. The average age was 56.8 in PV and 57.4 in MMP.
2) Buccal mucous was mostly affected by PV and gingiva-alveolar mucous by MMP. Extra-oral lesion was found in 5 cases of PV and one case of MMP.
3) The initial treatment, topical steroid therapy, was given to all of the cases. Systemic steroid was additionally administrated to 3 cases of severe symptoms. After definitive diagnosis, systemic steroid therapy was given to most of the cases.
The treatments were successful. At present, most of the cases are controlled only by topical therapy.
